Date: 22-28 August 2010
Place : Nakornpathom, Thailand
Detail : SEA START RC held a workshop on Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Urban Development Planning for Asian Coastal Cities to share experiences, lessons learned and information relevant to climate change risk assessment in Asian coastal megacities, and to identify potential future opportunities for research and regional cooperation. This activity brought together over 40 participants including academics, urban planners/government representatives, and experts in disaster management. The workshop comprised presentations from City Teams, expert presentations, training sessions (including socioeconomic vulnerability analysis, and GIS data preparation for estimating flood and inundation areas); and a field excursion to see at first hand the issues facing Samut Sakhon, a city and province located to the south of Bangkok that is facing increasing risk from floods and severe coastal erosion.
